SGS Thailand, together with the Thailand Productivity Institute (FTPI) and Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Alternate Director of Thailand, participated in the national workshop training on ISO 22000 and Food Traceability in the Seafood Industry.
The national workshop on ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems and Food Traceability for the Seafood Industry was held on November 25 – 27, 2009, at the Chaopraya Park Hotel, Bangkok. Around 39 companies attended, representing various stakeholders in the industry. The course was conducted in English, with summarized translation in Thai for each session.
Lead auditor and trainer Tokiat Phushaemshoti of the Systems and Services Certification division of SGS Thailand was a speaker at the said workshop. The training interpreted the requirements of ISO 22000:2005 for the seafood manufacturing industry.
Participants were equipped with basic knowledge of ISO 22000 and the requirements of the international program. The workshop especially benefited those who were interested in learning about food safety management specifically for the seafood industry.
ISO 22000 is an international standard that specifies the requirements for Food Safety Management Systems, wherein an organization in the food chain has to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.
SGS is the world’s preferred certifying body for food standards. To date, more than 2,000 small, medium and international companies have chosen SGS as their certifying body to perform the audit of their Food Safety Management System against leading food safety standards and regulations under the British Retail Consortium, Global GAP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), to name a few. By meeting the requirements of food safety standards, opportunities in the EU and North American markets are opened.
